About the Office

The Clerk of District Court is the keeper of the record for the District Court, which is responsible for all cases involving child custody, juvenile abuse/neglect and delinquency cases, felony criminal matters, probate, adoptions, all civil matters where the claim or dispute is over $50,000, and appeals from the Municipal and Circuit Courts.


Core Responsibilities

  • Handling all fees, fines, and court-ordered payments, and disbursing monies as required by statute
  • Attending court hearings and working closely with the Court Reporter to ensure all admitted exhibits are retained
  • Filing transcripts as required for appeals
  • Summoning a jury and appointing bailiffs for jury trials
  • Processing passport applications for Albany County residents
